Balefire by Cate Tiernan

This is a 4 in 1 book. A chalice of wind, A cicle of ashes, A feather of stone and A necklace of water.
A chalice of wind,
Thias Allard was living Welsford, Connecticut with her father. Then, her father died and she had to move away from everything she ever knew. Axelle was surposely a friend of her dad's and was going to take her to New Orleans. That's where she was going to be staying. Thias was very sad and felt so very alone.
Clio Martin lived in New Orleans with her grandmother. She's lived there all her life. She was a witch in training. Her grandmother Nan as Clio called her was her teacher. Clio didn't know that her life was going to change and that Thias was her twin sister.
Axelle had friends that she was hanging out with and there were others coming from other places in the country. Jules, Daedalus,Richard, Claire, Marcel, Ouida, Manon,Luc, and a few others were all getting together for some reason that Thias didn't understand.
Thias ended starting her last year of high school and that's where she met Clio. From there on she didn't think she had anyone left that was family. Things may just be different, tell she found out she was a witch. She didn't understand it and seemed a little upset about it.
What neither of them knew was that Luc had been seeing the other one tell when Clio had a party and he showed up. With things going on and maybe someone trying to kill one of them. They needed to find out the truth before anything did happen to one of them.
A circle of ashes,
Both girls were still mad at Luc. He knew deep down that he cared and loved Thias but, she didn't want anything to do with him. What they didn't know was that there was a reason that Luc went after both of them.
Daedalus had plans and he needed everyone to do thier part. He didn't trust Petra and now that she had both of the girls and the ritual was getting closer to getting here, he knew that he had to get everyone here. He had a plan.
Thias had moved in with her sister Clio and her grandmother. She seemed to feel better about things. She met Kevin and she thought he was cute but nothing like Luc. Inside her she wished she would quit thinking about him.
Clio and Thias had been trying to do magic together and everytime things went wrong. They had even caught thier house on fire. They couldn''t figure out what went wrong. They told Petra about it and she didn't understand what was going on. Then, one day Thias was out with Kevin and she did a protection spell and it worked. She then was told that water was her elimate.
A feather of stone,
Clio aand Thias still need to figure out who was trying to kill them. They needed to do another spell and they knew they couldn't do it at the house. So, they left and went some where else. What they were to find out shocked them. They also had a problem. They were being sucked into a water spout. Petra, Ouida and one other person arrived just in time to find them. Petra did a spell and saved the girls. The girls told her who it was that was trying to kill them, Richard.
Daedalus had plans but know one knew what. Besides everyone being there and the rite coming up. Clio had to figure out what to do about protecting her and Thais. Some how she had a slight thing for Richard and didn't understand what was causing it. She didn't like him and she knew he didn't care about her.
Other then that, things were changing. Whether she liked it or not.
A necklace of water,
Clio had been practicing with Daedalus for awhile now. She didn't know that his plan for her was going to cause problems that not even she would be able to stop. Thias didn't know that the lady she was with was Melita. Thias wanted revenge for her dad's death and knew what she was going to have to do.
Well, I'm not willing to give away any more of the story. If you want to know what happens to everyone, the twins, Luc, Richard and the rest, you'll have to read this book. I had a very hard time putting it down for how long the book is. But, I finished it and I feel it was worth reading.
I'm off now to start my next book. Remember that some books can get under your skin. They can grab a hold of you and make you want to finish the book tell its finished. This one did just that. A five star book for sure.

  1. Ooohh- I love a book that will get under my skin. That part of your review made me want to read this book right away. Also- I think it sounds fascinating. I can't imagine finding out my grandmother was a witch nor any of the plot twists you mention. Sound fascinating!

I found you through Book Blogs and signed up to follow you. When you have a chance- please stop by and follow the blog for my middle grade novel that I am hoping to get published. http://thesecretdmsfilesoffairdaymorrow.blogspot.com/

    Take care-
Jess- although I may show up as Fairday, the main character from my novel. I can't figure out why that happens sometimes and I can't fix it. :)
