Freedom by Jonathan Franzen

This is a story about the Bergland family. Patty had two sisters and one brother. Her parents were always quite busy with work and didn't really spend much time any of them. Patty was about seventeen when she called her mom and said she had been raped by a boy. Her came and got her and instead of taking her to the hospital, she brought her home. Then, called patty's father to tell him what happened. When her dad came to the house, he told Patty that he will deal with this. But, when he talked to the boys father and got their story, he came back and told his daughter that they aren't going to do anything. Patty wasn't happy but, tried to deal with it the best she could.

Walter Bergland and Richard Katz were roommates in college. He saw Patty from a distance and wanted to get to know her better. Richard didn't think that Patty would be into him because, she was a basketball player and her life was all about basketball. Walter was one of those guys that cared about nature and would send Patty plants for her room. She didn't really know what to say to Walter. She wasn't much into dating anyone. Walter did seem to be a good guy though.

When Patty met Richard she started to have a small crush on him. He was seeing plenty of other girls and sleeping with them if he could. He told Patty one night that he was going to New York for the holidays. She wanted to go with but Walter wanted her to come home with him so, she can meet his mom. His dad died not to long ago.

She ended u p changing her mind after she had already went with Richard. She took a bus and went to Walter. He wasn't sure what to think at first and then let her stay. It was two weeks and they could get to know each other better. They both had to go back to school after the holidays were over.

Patty blew out her knee and was in the hospital when Walter came in and asked her to marry him. She said, Yes. They had two kids, a boy and a girl. They had been married for 23 years. and their life had way to many ups and downs. Life for them, was going to change in many ways because of the decisions they made in those years. Life also will go on too.

You'll have to read the book to see what happens. I'll worn you that its fairly long read and a little slow at times.
